Waste Facilities

Peter Jones, MD talks about the groundbreaking environmental and waste engineering work Ashridge is doing at Bawtry.

The first phase of this project for Tunnel Tech North Ltd consisted of four reinforced concrete composting tunnels, 8 metres high and 50 metres long.

Phase 2 works consisted of 3 additional tunnels, external works, a mixing area and boundary walls.

Environmental and Waste Engineering
We are able to cater for aerobic and anaerobic processes together with traditional incineration through our working partnerships with specialist process engineering companies.

Design & Build

Together with our specialist design partners, we advocate Early Contractor Involvement (ECI) to understand constraints and identify innovative value engineering solutions. At Ashridge we passionately believe this is key to ensuring both programme and cost certainty for clients. Therefore every effort is made to ensure that Ashridge are involved at the pre-tender stage of the project, if not the design phase.

Waste
Ashridge has good relations with the major companies within the waste sector. Our in-house expertise is used to comply with current specifications in the construction of household waste recycling centres (HWRC), material recycling facilities (MRFs) and the necessary infrastructure to support such facilities.

Composting

We are able to offer a full turnkey solution for clients through the combined experience of our own staff and that of our specialist partners. This applies both to anaerobic and aerobic digestion facilities capable of processing a waste stream from as little as 5,000 tonne/annum to 7,500 tonne/annum. Our systems are ideal for long term projects such as PFI, but can also be re-engineered to give cost/value benefits for the smaller end of the market.

Pumping Stations
Ashridge has experience of both construction below and above ground level including sinking shafts and the design of temporary works to undertake in a safe manner.

Reinforced Concrete Structures
This area of work is a major part of the business whether they are structures over water or structures over/under roadways. Discussing buildability with the design team enables us to prepare cost effective schemes early on in the process to meet the client's budget.

Earth Works
We use the most cost-effective methods to carry out earthworks operations on our sites, where possible using our own plant company. Re-use and recycling of materials is always considered.

Pollution Control
On all schemes we comply with our Integrated Management System in order to control pollution, whether liquid, odours or general site activity contamination. All method statements recognise the importance of this aspect of the construction process.
